(Patch Media)

Hello, people of Glen Burnie! It's me again, Michele, your host of the Glen Burnie Daily.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine and patchy clouds. High: 69 Low: 55. Dare I say it? Has spring FINALLY sprung?

Here are the top stories in Glen Burnie today:

  1. Monday, May 9 Joshua Raymont Ransome, 32, of Glen Burnie was arrested. He was wandering on Crain Highway near 8th Avenue NW when the police approached and asked if they could search him. After the voluntary search produced suspected crack cocaine, heroin and Xanax, Ransome tried to flee the scene, but was caught and arrested. (Daily Voice)
  2. McKinley Jasper Lipscomb 3rd, 51, of Baltimore died Monday, May 9 from his injuries sustained in a car accident. The accident happened at about 8:15 p.m. on Route 100 near the Harmons Road exit. It is unclear at this time as to why or what caused the crash. (News Break)
  3. On May 7 at approximately 11:10 a.m. the police were called with a report of an armed person. Officers responded to the area of Harbor Drive and Hillsmere Drive in Annapolis and found a young male pointing what looked like a Glock 19 gun at people. It was determined the gun was actually a replica BB gun. The teenager was charged and released to his parents. (The Bay Net)

  • The Maryland Gazette is the oldest newspaper in America! It was founded in 1727 and is still being printed today. One of its locations was in Glen Burnie for many years, now the only location is in Annapolis. (Wikipedia)
  • Technically this did not happen in Glen Burnie, but it is pretty cool, nonetheless. Mary Katherine Goddard is famous for printing the first copy of the Declaration of Independence that included the names of all the signers. Goddard helped run the family printing business, which eventually moved to Baltimore. She finally assumed the title of publisher of the Maryland Journal and Baltimore Advertiser. (Women History)
  • Since we are on the printing theme, here is a shameless shout out to Sir Speedy Printing in Hanover. Anything from posters, manuals, color copies, envelopes... you name it. (Sir Speedy)
