(Patch Media)

Hello, everybody and happy July 1! I'm back in your inbox this morning to walk you through everything you need to know about what's happening in town these days. Keep scrolling for the scoop...

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and humid. High: 93 Low: 75.

Here are the top stories today in Glen Burnie:

  1. The Michaels Organization is redeveloping 13 acres of county-owned land. The area of this redevelopment is 7409 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. It is underused industrial property that will have apartments, lofts and townhomes as well as commercial space. (Anne Arundel County)
  2. An Annapolis drug dealer known as "Clown" Keith L. Brown, 63, of Annapolis has plead guilty to possession with intent to distribute PCP, crack, heroin, and cocaine. Brown admits to participating in several controlled purchases at two residences on Monroe Street in Annapolis. (The Bay Net)
  3. Krista Jacobs, 16, from Pasadena is not doing what she loves the most, which is playing softball. What she is doing is having dialysis treatment three days a week and waiting for August to come around. After experiencing chills, unexplained bruising and muscle cramps, her doctor had bloodwork taken, which showed her kidneys had stopped working. Luckily, there is a match for a living donor and the transplant is scheduled for this August. (News Break)
  4. Four years after the mass shooting at the Capital Gazette, Anne Arundel County release a "Gun Violence Protection Plan." This plan will call for a better public health approach and stronger firearm safety measures. With six goals in mind, officials hope this plan will reduce violence in the future. (Patch)

Are you a Glen Burnie resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)

To learn more, visit Masterworks.io, where Glen Burnie Daily readers can skip the waitlist.

  • A little Glen Burnie history that will make you the life of any party! Glen Burnie became an official state subdivision in 1888. The area was named after William Wilkins Glenn. At one time the only zip code for the area was 21061. As the area started getting bigger and more congested, it was decided that one side of Ritchie Highway would stay as 21061 and the other side would become 21060. (Wikipedia)
  • Did you know that Glen Burnie had its very own zoo? Well, it doesn't in the "traditional" sense, but it's full of animals! If you're looking for the perfect stuffed animal, click on the link and check them out. (Petting Zoo Plush)
