North County Football Coach Charged With Assault, Sex Offense
The North County High School football coach has been charged with inappropriately touching a student at the Glen Burnie school, police say.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — North County High School's head football coach has been charged with inappropriately touching a student at the Glen Burnie school, authorities say. Marvin Leon Brown Jr., 36, from the 15000 block of Copper Beach Drive in Upper Marlboro, was taken into custody Wednesday on second-degree assault and a fourth-degree sex offense charge, according to Anne Arundel County Police.
A spokesman for Anne Arundel County Public Schools tells Patch that Brown's coaching contract will not be renewed for the coming season, and he was reassigned to a job where he had no contact with children once the allegations surfaced in February. The school system also plans to fire him from his full-time position.
Patch has reached out to Brown seeking comment on the charges but has not had a response. We will update this story should he reply.

On Feb. 21, the Department of Social Services and the Anne Arundel County Child Abuse Unit were notified of inappropriate contact between Brown and a female student, police say. The juvenile victim told police that Brown would send messages to her cell phone during and after school hours. In February, Brown reportedly touched the girl inappropriately over the clothing.
Brown worked as a behavioral assistant and football coach at North County High School since August 2015.

"Our school system became aware of the first allegation in mid-February and immediately removed Mr. Brown from the school," spokesman Bob Mosier told Patch. "For the remainder of the school year, he was reassigned to a position where he had no contact with students. His position (Behavioral Assistant) is a 10-month position, and as such he does not work in the summer."
Brown will be afforded his due process, Mosier said, but at this time the superintendent intends to initiate the proceedings to terminate Brown from his behavioral assistant position. Brown was informed in writing recently that he would not be returning as the football coach at North County next season, school officials say.
Working in conjunction with the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office the Child Abuse Unit secured an arrest warrant for Brown, who was taken into custody without incident at his home.
