Here are the top stories in Glen Burnie today:
- SECU Credit Union awarded scholarships to five Anne Arundel County students. SECU is Maryland largest credit union, and its headquarters is conveniently located in Linthicum. "The grand prize scholarships were presented in memory of Donald Tynes Sr., SECU's longest-serving board member who died in March." (Glen Burnie Patch)
- The Department of Aging and Disabilities is proud to announce that the Sentimental Journey Singers choral program is coming to Anne Arundel County. The 15-week program starts this September. Click the link to find out more information. (Anne Arundel County)
- The new light rail schedule is set to start this Sunday, July 10. The change in schedule is due to a shortage of light rail drivers. Hopefully, this will help with getting the trains on a consistent schedule, even if the wait time is a little longer. The MTA is encouraging people to apply. (CBS Baltimore)
- In 1941, William Brooks was just 19 years old when his ship was hit and sank during World War II. The bodies were recovered in 1944, but most of the crew were not able to be identified. In 2015, the Department of Defense allowed the unidentified sailors to be exhumed and DNA testing done. This has led to 355 sailors being identified and returned back to their families. Brooks will arrive at BWI on July 12 and taken to Singleton's Funeral Home. The viewing and burial will be open to the public. (WJHL-TV News Channel 11)
