Woman Sentenced to 18 Months Jail Time for Hitting Bikers

Authorities say Robin Colbert of Annapolis was drunk when her car swerved and hit a Severna Park man and Glen Burnie woman on a bike ride.

An Annapolis woman convicted of driving drunk when her car crashed into two bicyclists, nearly killing one of the riders, will spend 18 months in prison.

Robin Vera Colbert, 55, apologized Thursday when she appeared in Anne Arundel Circuit Court in Annapolis. The crash happened on southbound Route 450 near Brice Lane in Annapolis on June 29, when Colbert’s car struck Todd Eliot Green, 27, of Severna Park and Katie Christine Pohler, 23, of Glen Burnie.

“If I could take that day back and put it on myself, that’s what I’d do,” Colbert said in court, reports the Capital-Gazette. “I know that it’s going to be a rough road, a hard road, and nothing I can say will make me feel better. It may take years. It may never happen.”

Judge Paul A. Hackner sentenced Colbert to three years in prison, suspending all but 18 months. She must also serve five years of probation for causing a life-threatening injury while driving under the influence, the newspaper reports.

According to Anne Arundel County Police, Colbert was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima and failed to stay within the lanes. Colbert’s car crossed into the right shoulder marked as the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail. Both Green and Pohler were properly using the trail portion of the road, police say.
