Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Playtime Project launches first community hub for childcare and play for homeless families (streetsensemedia.org) — Families in Greenbelt now have a new community hub at Beltway Plaza Mall, where the Playtime Project has opened its first brick‑and‑mortar center for childcare, play, and support services. The nonprofit, long active in D.C. and Prince George's shelters, will offer daycare, afterschool programs, summer camps, social work help, and teen initiatives aimed at easing the isolation that often follows homelessness.
2. City Council Votes to Establish New Tenant Advisory Board (greenbeltnewsreview.com) — Greenbelt renters will soon have a new voice at City Hall after council unanimously created a seven-member Tenant Advisory Board focused on rental housing issues within the city. The volunteer board will advise on tenant policies, promote awareness of renter rights, and help shape ideas like a Greenbelt-specific tenant bill of rights and rules for tenant-initiated repairs reimbursed by landlords.
3. City Acts on ICE, Recognition Funding and Staff Authority (greenbeltnewsreview.com) — Greenbelt's City Council has formally opposed an ICE office expansion in nearby Hyattsville, approving a letter to the county executive after residents raised concerns about its impact on Greenbelters seeking services. Council also tightened rules for city recognition group funding, clarified that staff—not councilmembers—must negotiate landscaping agreements with HOAs, and moved ahead on exploring a new sister city relationship in South Korea.
4. Australia, Europe and US move to restrict smart glasses over privacy concerns (biometricupdate.com) — If you're heading to the federal courthouse in Greenbelt after November 2, you'll generally need to leave smart glasses and most portable electronic devices at home. The new rule is part of a broader international push to curb covert recording and protect privacy, as governments from Australia to Europe and across the U.S. tighten policies on wearable cameras.
