"Truth Be Told" Concert

alight dance theater presents the world premiere Truth Be Told, a new original production choreographed and directed by Greenbelt resident Angella Foster. This wacky, satirical look at the rise of our increasingly confessional culture unfolds as a live action reality show. Five women with five secrets battle it out for a chance to win money and fame under the watchful eye of the showʼs fabulous host, Wayles. Featuring an original sound score and multi-media, Truth Be Told crams an entire season of reality show hilarity, tension and triumphs into just 50 minutes of non-stop action. Ultimately, Truth Be Told considers how the hidden layers of our public persona can betray us in ways that are both touching and ridiculous.

The program also includes The 50’s Front, choreographed by Wayles Haynes. Ladies wear gloves, dutiful daughters listen to their mothers and you can’t find the mold where you used to fit.  When reckless desire confronts feminine wisdom, will you become your mother or is it time to take off the gloves?  1950’s American fashion and gender roles set the stage as The 50’s Front examines your mother issues.  When’s the last time you called?

alight company member and choreographer Monica Warren describes her new work Shadowmark as an examination of the condition where total visual disclosure is shifting or distorted and familiar perceptions are challenged.  The work features live oboe accompaniment performed by Janet Blair and costumes by Rebecca DeLapp.
