2 Projects Get Legacy Grant Funding

Havre de Grace will receive $120,000 in community legacy grants.

Two proposed projects unveiled in 2011 were essentially given the green light Wednesday when Maryland announced two legacy grants had been awarded to Havre de Grace.

Havre de Grace City Council passed an ordinance supporting the improved visual entrance to the city along Superior Street, and a "living fence" behind the water plant during a meeting in October 2011.

The gateway project along Superior Street near the Hatem Bridge underpass was granted $100,000. The living fence project was granted $20,000.

The gateway was recently featured as Patch looks back at a 15-year-old study on Havre de Grace's downtown.

The grants came as part of an announcement by Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Raymond A. Skinner for nearly $4 million in grants to 35 municipalities statewide.

Aberdeen and Bel Air each received $50,000—Aberdeen for facade improvements, and Bel Air for a downtown business incentive program.
