Basement Fire On Sherwood Lane Caused $100K In Damage: Officials

The fire marshal said a smoke alarm alerted a Harford County man to the fire at his home.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The house fire on Sherwood Lane Saturday night caused $100,000 in damage, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Sunday.

At 7:38 p.m. on Saturday, the owner of the rancher in the 2300 block of Sherwood Lane was alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm, the fire marshal said.

Approximately 25 firefighters led by the Aberdeen Fire Company responded to the one-alarm blaze and brought the basement fire under control in 30 minutes.

The homeowner was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene but declined transport, officials reported.

The Susquehanna Hose Company was among the fire companies that responded, and it reported that its crew was on site until 10:49 p.m. helping to ensure all hot spots were out.

While the origin of the blaze was traced to the basement, the cause has yet to be determined. The fire marshal estimated there was $75,000 in structural damage and $25,000 worth of items inside were also lost.
