Blue Lights in HdG to Honor Fallen Deputies

The mayor has ordered Havre de Grace to shine blue as a way of remembering two deputies killed in the line of duty.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The lights in downtown Havre de Grace will shine blue on Friday, Feb. 10.

Mayor Bill Martin issued the order as a way for the city and its citizens to pay tribute to two Harford County deputies who died in the line of duty on Feb. 10, 2016.

Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey, 52, and Deputy First Class Mark Logsdon, 43, were killed by a gunman while responding to a call for a wanted man in the 3400 block of Merchant Boulevard. There were at least two warrants for the killer's arrest, including one for assaulting a police officer in Florida, officials later said.

The suspect opened fire on Dailey inside Panera in Abingdon, then ran outside.

Logsdon was trying to find the gunman when the suspect opened fire outside the Park View Apartments, from a 2004 Ford Taurus where authorities said he had been living. Officials found multiple guns and more than 2,700 rounds of live ammunition inside the car, where the suspect died still holding his gun.

The Havre de Grace recognition of the slain deputies coincides with a countywide tribute slated for Friday.

Harford County Executive Barry Glassman declared Feb. 10 a day of remembrance to honor the supreme sacrifice that Dailey and Logsdon made.

Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler and members of the Harford County Sheriff's Office will stand together for a remembrance ceremony at the memorial established for the deputies at the Boulevard at Box Hill at 11:45 a.m. on Feb. 10.

Harford County employees will gather in silence at noon outside the administrative office building at 220 South Main Street in Bel Air on Friday, Feb. 10, before emergency sirens sound for one minute countywide.
