Chase Near Tydings Park Lands Man In Jail With No Bail

An observation by a Havre de Grace officer on patrol netted drugs and weapons, police said.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD - A Joppa man is being held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center following a police chase near Tydings Park in Havre de Grace.

Police said the 21-year-old ran away while officers were searching a vehicle in the 300 block of Commerce Street.

He had been a passenger in the car at 3:23 a.m. on July 1 when an officer on foot patrol saw him pouring vodka into the driver's sport bottle, police said. The officer allegedly smelled burnt marijuana and ordered them out of the Mazda 3 for a search.

Police said in the area where the passenger had been sitting there was a drawstring bag, which contained suspected marijuana and a handgun.

An officer who responded to help with the search saw the suspect in the foyer of the Bayou condominiums in the 300 block of Commerce Street, before he ran across the road and fell on the curb in the 300 block of Giles Street, police said; he was taken into custody there without further incident.

A Browning handgun and magazine with four hollow point bullets, four birdshot bullets and two standard .22 caliber bullets were taken into evidence from the vehicle, along with plastic baggies and a digital scale, according to authorities.

Marcus Ganey, 21, of the 300 block of Joppa Crossing Court, was charged with drug possession with intent to distribute, using a firearm to commit a felony, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, possession of more than 10 grams of marijuana and resisting/interfering with arrest, court records show.

He is being held without bail pending a preliminary hearing in his case, scheduled for Aug. 3 in Harford County District Court.
