Comptroller Franchot To Visit Havre de Grace

The tour and visit is scheduled for Aug. 4.

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot is scheduled to visit Havre de Grace on Aug. 4.

During the brief stop, Franchot plans to take a walking tour that will conclude at the . The public is welcome to attend the reception at 3:15 p.m. Refreshments will be served, according to a news release from the city of Havre de Grace.

The release states Franchot "is interested in learning more about the City of Havre de Grace and some of the contemporary issues facing the business community and residents."

Mayor Wayne Dougherty and other city officials plan to greet the comptroller.

Dougherty told Patch Friday he is looking forward to showcasing the city, its businesses and how they have dealt with the economic downturn. He said he also hopes to talk with Franchot about a reduction in property taxes to benefit small businesses in Havre de Grace.

"I think it's great for the city," Dougherty said. "We’ll be able to showcase the city and hopefully it will lead to a follow-up, to where he’ll want to come back and visit each business."
