Councilwoman Lisanti Seeks Student Input

A local representative is looking for a local student to join the county's Youth Commission.

County Councilwoman Mary Ann Lisanti is seeking some youth help from her district.

Lisanti is looking for a local student to add to Harford County's youth commission.

"I am working with [the county executive and County Council] to find an interested youth from my council district," Lisanti said in an email to Patch, noting that the initial nominee from her district was a graduating senior departing soon for college.

Lisanti represents District F, which includes Havre de Grace, Abingdon, Belcamp and parts of Aberdeen.

Mission

The Youth Commission was formed to help advise the County Executive and other county officials on the overall status of Harford County's youth population, and make recommendations on how the county can better provide for youth needs.

Goals

  • To be a community leader in the identification of issues affecting youth.
  • To serve as an advocate for youth needs in the community by directly engaging the community in the process.
  • To develop leadership skills and educate youth about existing community programs.
  • To recognize and promote the value of young people in our community.
  • To encourage independence and responsibility by assisting with job placement.

Purpose

  • To stimulate the full development of the present county youth organizations, programs and facilities.
  • To identify the needs of our youth and present them with opportunities and alternatives which may have a positive impact on their lives.
  • To design programs and activities through community organizations, local schools and county government that encourages parents and families to engage in the lives of their youth on a daily basis.
  • To advise local and county officials as to matters relating to youth.
