Delegate Glass: Defeat In-State Tuition for Illegal Immigrants

The Republican delegate is part of an effort to place the pending legislation on the 2012 ballot to let voters approve or reject a bill allowing in-state tuition for children of illegal immigrants.

Del. Glen Glass has urged citizens to sign the statewide petition to try to overturn pending legislation that will allow illegal immigrants to pay in-state college tuition, a bill that Gov. Martin O'Malley is expected to sign Tuesday.

The "Dream Act" allows students who are illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at Maryland colleges if they have attended three years at a Maryland high school and their parents have paid state taxes.

, a Republican representing southern Harford County and part of western Cecil County, released a statement Tuesday saying, in part, that "legal" families should be a priority. He is part of a statewide GOP effort to repeal the legislation by getting enough signatures to put it on the 2012 ballot as a referendum that voters can either approve or reject.

The following is a statement from Glass:

Today marks a turning point for all ‘legal’ Maryland families and their children and future generations to come.  Governor O’Malley signs the In-State Tuition for Illegal Immigrants bill, also known as “The Dream Act,” into law allowing  illegal immigrants to pay the lower in-state tuition which then gives them seats in classrooms ‘legal’ Marylanders should have access to first!

We as Marylanders cannot let this happen.

This bill should go to referendum for the people to decide.  It should not have been decided by politicians in Annapolis.  If you want your voice to be heard go to www.mdpetitions.com, download the petition, sign it and pass it around to your neighbors, friends and family, get as many signatures as you can and send it back in.

‘LEGAL’ MARYLAND FAMILIES SHOULD COME FIRST!
