Former HdG Man Charged in Cold Case Homicide: Sheriff

A man who lived in Havre de Grace has been charged in double murder from 2006, Harford County Sheriff's Office reports.

Authorities charged a former Havre de Grace resident in a double homicide cold case, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday.

Bernard Harris Davis Jr., 27, whose last known address was on Martin Road in Havre de Grace, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and using a handgun to commit a violent crime.

He received a warrant for the homicides Friday at the Harford County Detention Center, were he was currently incarcerated on unrelated burglary charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

The charges stem from the deaths of Waverly Corey Lewis and Randolph Mendon Goodson on Sept. 14, 2006, the sheriff’s office reported.

“With no witnesses to the crime and little information on a possible suspect, all leads quickly ran out with no arrests,” according to the report.

A friend of the victims came by the 1300 block of Gold Meadow Way in Edgewood and found the pair at 1:41 p.m. on Sept. 14, 2006, each shot in the head, the report said.

“Progress on the case stalled and the case went cold. A fresh look into the murders earlier this month sent detectives to revisit the evidence collected and re-interview key people in the case. Through this renewed effort, coupled with new details developed, detectives were able to identify Davis as a suspect,” the report said.

“Cold cases are extremely difficult to investigate, but not impossible to solve,” Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said. “Time may make the trail go cold, but we will not stop until we find the suspects and bring closure to the families of the victims.”

Added Gahler: “If you commit a crime in Harford County, we will find you. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but we will continue to work the case. Your tip could be the piece of the puzzle we need to close the case.”
