Halloween Films in Havre de Grace

Come join us at The Cultural Center at the Opera House for some Halloween fun!

Movies, movies, movies are on the big screen at the Cultural Center at the Opera House in Havre de Grace celebrating Halloween in October, from children’s fun to horror classics to cult films from the sixties.

On Saturday, October 20th at 10:30 am, there will be a costume parade, prizes, photo booth plus Trunk or Treat, followed by a screening of Monsters, Inc. Children under 12 are free when accompanied by a paying adult ($6.00). In order to power the city, monsters have to scare children so that they scream. However, the children are toxic to the monsters, and after a child gets through, two monsters realize things may not be what they think. A Disney Film for ages 5 and up.

Don’t miss the classic film Ghostbusters on Wednesday, October 17th, at 7:00 pm. Ghostbusters, starring Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, is the story of three former parapsychology professors who set up shop as a unique ghost removal service. At the screening, the Havre de Grace Arts Collective will launch a Bill Murray Film Festival Contest. The public is invited to send an email to artsalive@hdgartscollective.org stating their favorite Bill Murray movie and why in 25 words or less. Entries will be posted to Facebook. Winners receive free tickets to the Bill Murray Film Festival on February 3-5, 2019 at the Opera House. The Bill Murray movie favorites that receive the highest number of votes will be included in the Festival.

And finally, on consecutive evenings, October 29th, 30th, and 31st, at 7:00 pm, the Arts Collective Film Team will offer the Blood Trilogy by Hershell Gordon Lewis. These films, Blood Feast, 2000 Maniacs, and Color Me Blood Red, were filmed in the early sixties and have become cult darlings. Although the movies are known for being some of the first “slasher” films, they have since become popular for being very low budget and as a result, even humorous in their terrible special effects. Nonetheless, these films are not for the faint of heart and are violent and bloody.

These events are presented by the Havre de Grace Arts Collective, a 501(c)(3) organization created to address the cultural and economic needs of Havre de Grace and the surrounding region, including oversight of the Cultural Center at the Opera House, Arts and Entertainment District, and the Arts by the Bay Gallery.
