Harford County Board of Education to Elect New President

During Monday's meeting, the school board will also hear a presentation about what Harford County students do after graduation.

The Harford County Board of Education will elect a new board president and vice president during its Monday night meeting.

The officers will serve two-year terms on the board, according to policy.

The board will recognize James Murdza, who retired in 1989 with 30 years of service. Murdza will be inducted into the Harford County Public Schools Educator Hall of Fame as its 173rd member.

The board will also acknowledge Ring Factory Elementary for its designation as a 2012 Blue Ribbon School. Recognized for its academic success, Ring Factory is one of 10 schools earning this award in the state of Maryland and 269 nationwide. In November, the school will receive a special plaque and flag at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Also on Monday's agenda, the school board will hear a report on recommended changes to the gang activity policy. In addition, the associate superintendent will deliver a presentation showing postsecondary data collected on Harford County Public School students.

Several contract awards will be discussed, including these:

  • Energy Contract and Capital Project, which will save sufficient funding to cover the debt payments for financing of the improvements.
  • Annual Financial Report and Auditors Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, in the A.A. Roberty Building (102 S. Hickory Ave.) in Bel Air.
