Harford County Opens 4 Warming Centers

Multiple locations countywide will be available for those seeking warmth, Harford officials say.

With wind chills making it feel as cold as 25 below, Harford County has opened four libraries as warming centers, according to Harford County Emergency Management.

These warming centers will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15.

  • Aberdeen branch of Harford County Public Library; 21 Franklin St., Aberdeen
  • Jarrettsville branch of Harford County Public Library; 3722 Norrisville Rd., Jarrettsville
  • Bel Air branch of Harford County Public Library; 100 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Bel Air
  • Abingdon branch of Harford County Public Library; 2510 Tollgate Rd., Abingdon

Wind Chill Advisory, Wind Advisory in Effect

A wind chill advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday, calling for temperatures from single digits to the teens with wind chills that feel like 5 to 25 degrees below.

Much of the state is under a wind advisory until 4 p.m. Sunday, with the potential for wind gusts from 20 to 30 mph and up to 45 mph that may cause downed power lines and trees, according to the National Weather Service. Officials advised that snow may blow across the area, limiting visibility.

Harford County Emergency Manager: ‘Dangerous Situation for Anyone Outside’

Emergency Manager Rick Ayers issued this statement Sunday morning cautioning citizens about the cold outside.

Good morning: This is Emergency Manager Rick Ayers with an update on the current weather conditions. The windy conditions will last throughout the day and evening with gusts 45 to 50 mph, making the wind chill a dangerous situation for anyone outside.
