Harford County Pledges $500K To HdG Living Shoreline Project
The county will contribute half a million dollars to help build up a section of shoreline in Havre de Grace along the Susquehanna River.
HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — State, city and county agencies plan to bolster the Susquehanna River shoreline in Havre de Grace. County Executive Barry Glassman announced the partnership Tuesday night during his annual state of the county address.
Called the "living shoreline project," the effort will involve using natural materials like rocks and plantings to build a coastal edge. As it grows, it will create a habitat for wildlife and protect the waterfront community of Havre de Grace.
Harford County will provide up to $500,000 toward the living shoreline project's design. Then the plan is to partner with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to get state grants that will cover the cost of building the shoreline.
