Havre de Grace Man Sells Home to Pay Child Support

A man sold his home in Havre de Grace and sent the county $63,000 the day before Thanksgiving, according to a press release from the Harford County State's Attorney's Office.

The state's attorney was planning to put a lien on the home of Jackie Ronald Lyons Jr., who lived on 200 block of Alliance St. in Havre de Grace because he owed more than $60,000 in unpaid child support, according to the release.

Through investigation, the Family Support Division of the State’s Attorney’s Office reportedly found real estate, multiple bank accounts and vehicles in Lyons' name.

After officials filed to take Lyons' motorcycle, seize his accounts and put a lien on his home, Lyons sent the check to officials, according to the statement.

Officials began garnishing from his bank account in August, according to a spokesman from the state's attorney's office, and were in the process of seizing the motorcycle when they received the check.

As a result, the state's attorney said that Lyons "sold his house to pay...rather than lose his Harley."

The home on Alliance Street was valued at $185,700, according to the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation.
