Discovery at Havre de Grace VFW Post Brings in Bomb Squad
Ordnances were found while members were cleaning out the lodge, officials said.
A member of the Havre de Grace VFW Post 8126 on Lodge Lane found ordnances while cleaning out the quartermaster's office Friday morning, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
The equipment was brought to the Havre de Grace Police Department on Pennington Avenue at 11:40 a.m. Friday for inspection, according to the fire marshal's report.
Two members of the Susquehanna Hose Company's Division 5, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Aberdeen Proving Ground and the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office were called to investigate, the report stated.
At the center of the investigation were 81-mm, 126-mm and 105-mm rounds, according to The Aegis, which reported they were found in the closets at the VFW post.
The Army personnel from Aberdeen determined the ordnances were inert and safe, according to the fire marshal's report.
The VFW member who brought them in said they had been at the post since the 1950s, the report said.
