HdG Hiker Fell from Port Deposit Cliff: Report

A woman from Havre de Grace is recovering after falling down a cliff in Cecil County.

A Havre de Grace woman who fell approximately 70 feet from a cliff in Cecil County is urging others to take heed from her experience.

Rebecca Ashman, 19, was rescued by the Water Witch Fire Company and the Harford Technical Rescue Team on Tuesday, then flown to shock trauma with a broken finger, lung and liver damage as well as cuts and scrapes from slipping at "The Eye," a cliff in Port Deposit, the Cecil Whig reported.

Ashman, who graduated from Havre de Grace High School in 2014, plays softball at Cecil College and said she will be out from the sport for at least two weeks while she recovers, according to The Aegis, which reported she was discharged Wednesday from shock trauma and is on the mend at home.

Water Witch Volunteer Fire Company shared an update from Ashman on Facebook in which she asked others to learn from what happened to her.

"Don't let my survival underestimate the true risk," Ashman wrote. "The next person to fall at the cliffs, the King and Queen Seat, the Eye or any other overlook may not be as lucky as I was."
