Holiday Patrols in Harford, Cecil Counties Net 10 DUI Arrests
Havre de Grace police assisted with DUI patrols. Police said 500-plus vehicles passed through Harford, Cecil checkpoints over Thanksgiving.

State troopers made dozens of arrests over the Thanksgiving holiday, including a handful in Harford and Cecil counties, according to Maryland State Police.
Overnight on Thanksgiving, troopers from the Bel Air, North East and JFK barracks patrolled a section of US 40 in Cecil County that netted four arrests — two for impaired driving, one for drug possession and one for a warrant.
Police reported the following results from Wednesday's checkpoint on Route 40 in Cecil County, where 150 vehicles passed through:

- 134 warnings for motor vehicle infractions
- 77 citations for motor vehicle law infractions
- 32 seatbelt violations
- 17 equipment repair orders issued
- 8 cell phone/distracted driving infractions
- 2 DUI arrests
- 1 drug possession arrest
- 1 outstanding warrant arrest
Havre de Grace police also worked at a DUI checkpoint in Harford County outside Bel Air where eight people were arrested for impaired driving.

Troopers from the Bel Air Barrack set up the checkpoint just outside Bel Air overnight from Wednesday, Nov. 23, to Thursday, Nov 24, according to police, who said 366 vehicles passed through.
In addition to the eight drivers arrested for driving under the influence, authorities said they took one person into custody who was wanted as a fugitive.
Deputies from the Harford County Sheriff's Office as well as officers from the Aberdeen, Bel Air and Havre de Grace police departments joined troopers from the Bel Air and JFK barracks in the checkpoint.
JFK Highway Barrack troopers focused Wednesday and Sunday on "Operation Keep It Moving," an initiative along I-95 to minimize delays caused by crashes and traffic violations.
Troopers also patrolled the Maryland House and Chesapeake House rest areas to deter crime and help travelers.
Troopers in Harford and Cecil counties were not alone in their holiday patrol efforts.
Officers from 23 Maryland State Police barracks worked extra shifts the past week to monitor impaired aggressive and distracted driving, all common causes of traffic fatalities during the busy holiday travel season, according to a statement from the agency.
Statewide, police said there were 7,470 traffic stops, resulting in 93 arrests for impaired driving, 75 arrests on criminal charges and 62 arrests for those wanted on warrants. Troopers issued 4,139 traffic citations and 4,924 warnings as well across Maryland, according to police.
