Slippery surfaces were not only challenging for drivers in Harford County when the region was under a winter weather advisory for sleet, snow and freezing rain.

A horse stuck in the mud brought firefighters to the 4000 block of Madonna Road Friday night, the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company reported.

“The horse was older in age and was unable to stand on its own due to muddy conditions and a slight incline in the yard,” according to the fire company.

The Jarrettsville crew rose to the occasion, lifting the horse out of danger, according to Jenn Chenworth-Price, spokeswoman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

The animal was moved to a safer location until it was able to stand on its own, according to the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company.

“Routine calls come in every day,” Chenworth-Price said, “but our days are rarely routine in the fire service.”
