HdG House Fire: One Hospitalized, $20K in Damage, Fire Marshal Says

The Susquehanna Hose Company was among the crews handling Sunday night blaze that was traced to a space heater.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — One person was taken to the hospital after a house fire in Havre de Grace that started with an extension cord, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. There was $20,000 in damage from the blaze as well, officials said.

At 8:45 p.m., someone in the 2200 block of Titan Terrace smelled smoke and upon investigation, found a fire in a bedroom, according to authorities. The bedroom was reportedly a garage that had been converted into a residential space.

Despite the individual's efforts to extinguish the flames using a bucket of water, officials said the blaze spread out of control.

Crews from Aberdeen, APG, Level and the Susquehanna Hose Company brought the blaze under control in five minutes.

Everyone inside the home was able to escape — among them an older woman who was taken to Harford Memorial Hospital by the Havre de Grace Ambulance Corps for a medical evaluation, officials reported.

The fire marshal ruled the cause accidental, attributing the blaze to an extension cord that failed while it was powering a space heater.

As a result of the blaze, there was $10,000 in structural damage to the home, where authorities said $10,000 worth of items inside were damaged as well.

PREVIOUS REPORT — Firefighters made quick work of a reported house fire Sunday night in Havre de Grace. The fire was contained to the garage, officials said.

Crews responded to the 2200 block of Titan Terrace before 9 p.m., according to the Susquehanna Hose Company.

A fire was found in the attached garage, which had been converted into a bedroom, the hose company reported.

Two engines and a fire truck responded and knocked the blaze in short order, officials said. By 9:45 p.m., the blaze had been knocked.
