Hundreds Turn Out for Relay for Life at HHS

Havre de Grace High School hosted the annual event to raise cancer awareness.

Over the weekend, hundreds pulled all-nighters at Havre de Grace High School to raise awareness about cancer.

Approximately 775 people participated in the Havre de Grace Relay for Life, according to the official event website.

Organized into 57 teams, individuals walked around the track at Harris Stadium from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday. They were sponsored by organizations and people, and in all, the effort raised more than $104,000, which will go to the American Cancer Society for research.

The Relay for Life was originally scheduled for June 7 to 8 but was rescheduled due to rain. The June 21 to 22 weekend proved to be a better fit, according to one attendee.

"The weather was awesome and the turnout was amazing," wrote Hollee Sifford, who posted pictures from the 2013 Havre de Grace Relay for Life on Patch.

"The teams, committee and all participants worked hard to continue the fight against cancer," Sifford added.

She noted that "Harris Field was busting with enjoyment" and its recent updates, like the field house, were "looking good."
