Lewis Lane Players Start '16-'17 Season with "Lost in Yonkers"

Neil Simon's classic comedy will be in Havre de Grace for two nights only, Nov. 18 and 19.

The Lewis Lane Players are getting ready to kick off their sixth theatrical season in Havre de Grace and have a schedule of plays for the upcoming year that are sure to sound familiar. The acting troupe remains dedicated to putting on productions of classic stage plays which in the past have included titles such as Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit and John Patrick Shanley's Tony Award winning Doubt.

This year they will kick things off with none other than Neil Simon. On November 18 and 19, prepare to laugh, cry and experience every emotion in between as the Lewis Lane Players bring you Simon's Tony Award winning comedy Lost in Yonkers. By America's great comic playwright, this memorable play is set in Yonkers in 1942. Bella is 35-years-old, mentally challenged and living at home with her mother, stern Grandma Kurnitz. As the play opens, ne'r do-well son Eddie deposits his two young sons on the old lady's doorstep. He is financially strapped and taking to the road as a salesman. The boys are left to contend with Grandma, with Bella and her secret romance, and with Louie, her brother, a small-time hoodlum in a strange new world called Yonkers.

There will be two performances of this show: Friday, November 18, 2016 at 7:00 and Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 5:30. All shows will be held at the Lewis Lane Players' home "black box" theater, "Theater 351" inside the Havre de Grace Activity Center, 351 Lewis Lane (next to the Middle School). Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children (0-11) and seniors (55+) and may be purchased online at www.hdgdramatroop.com or in person in the Parks & Recreation office at the Havre de Grace Activity Center, 351 Lewis Lane (first door on the left after you walk into the main entrance).

The season keeps rolling on after Yonkers. On December 10 at 5:30, the Lewis Lane Players will present their third annual performance of It's a Wonderful Life! A Live Radio Play. Transport yourself back to the 1940s, before television was king and when radio ruled the airwaves. It was an age when everyone tuned in to hear Amos and Andy, The Lone Ranger or The Shadow. Now imagine if you could sit in the radio studio on a Christmas Eve 70 years ago like a fly on the wall and watch the actors play multiple characters and see how they created all the unique sound effects while telling the story of this Christmas classic. It is a truly unique show unlike any other. Tickets will go on sale next month, so stay tuned.

Finally, for the first time the Lewis Lane Players will be bringing back a show they did several years ago for an encore production. In 2011, Steel Magnolias was one of the most popular plays the troupe has done, with an audience reaction through the roof. Now, in May, 2017, the southern belles will be making their triumphant return to "Theater 351."
