Makeup Fireworks Date Set For Havre de Grace After Rainout

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — After the fireworks in Havre de Grace were postponed due to storms in the area July 6, the city and the Havre de Grace Independence Day Commission announced the new date. The fireworks will coincide with the Waterfront Festival, which will take place in August.

The new date for the Havre de Grace fireworks will be Saturday, Aug. 24. They will be set off from Concord Point Park at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Fireworks will be visible along the waterfront.

This year marks the inaugural run for the Waterfront Festival in Havre de Grace.

It is one of three new events the city's tourism office is launching in 2019 to stimulate economic development, in addition to Defenders Weekend in May (celebrating John O'Neill) and the Jazz and Blues Fest in June, Mayor William T. Martin said in his State of the City address in February. The first annual Havre de Grace Ice Festival also created an attraction downtown in January.

The Havre de Grace Alliance is organizing the Waterfront Festival in conjunction with the city and in collaboration with other local organizations.

At the two-day event — Saturday, Aug. 24, and Sunday, Aug. 25 — the community will celebrate the Susquehanna River at Havre de Grace's waterfront parks with seafood, including steamed crabs; live music and entertainers; food trucks; beer gardens; artisans and other vendors; land and water demonstrations; a petting zoo; youth fishing derby; boat cruises; and live mermaids, among other offerings. Restaurants in the downtown area will reportedly participate in a crab soup contest, and merchants will offer special in-store promotions for the affair.

While the festival is slated for two days, the fireworks are set to go off only on Saturday, Aug. 24.
