Man Killed in Standoff Was APG Staff Sergeant: Report
The suicidal man allegedly told deputies he planned on 'shooting his way out of the residence,' Harford County Sheriff's Office reports.
BEL AIR, MD – The Harford County Sheriff's Office has identified the man killed in a standoff with tactical officers Wednesday evening at his home in Bel Air.
Travis Boyd Bradley, 36, was shot after three hours of negotiations at his home in the 300 block of Althea Court, according to the sheriff's office.
Bradley was a staff sergeant at Aberdeen Proving Ground in the research, development and engineering command, according to WBAL, which reported he served two tours in Iraq and was transferred from Georgia to Maryland over the summer. He reportedly had two children under the age of 7.

Leading up to the fatal shooting, Bradley exited his home and made motions that implied he was armed after declaring he "intended on shooting his way out of the residence," officials said.

Authorities had been called to Bradley's home at 3:30 p.m. for a call about a suicidal individual who may be armed, who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and who had been drinking, the sheriff's office reported.
Once officers had tried negotiating with Bradley to come out for about half an hour, he went out the back door, fired two rounds from a rifle and then went back inside, according to the report.
Nobody was injured in that incident, which took place on the back deck with an assault rifle, according to ABC 2 News, which reported Bradley's girlfriend was the one who initially alerted authorities that he was suicidal and may have had a handgun.
The next time he came out—around 6:30 p.m.—three deputies feared for their and the community's safety and opened fire, the sheriff's office reported.
The officers were 13, 14 and 15-year veterans of the Harford County Sheriff's Office who have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, according to the report; that is standard procedure.
