The Mighty Susquehanna: The Key to the Health of the Bay
Talk by Michael Helfrich, the Riverkeeper for the Stewards of the Lower Susquehanna. Event will be at the Maritime Museum this September.

Michael Helfrich, a native of York, PA, is the officially designated Riverkeeper for the Stewards of the Lower Susquehanna. The Susquehanna, the largest river flowing into the Chesapeake Bay, has a direct impact on Havre de Grace and other river and Bay communitities in Maryland. His organization plays a crucially important role in the health of the Bay by identifying sources of pollution aqnd ensuring the enforcement of environmental laws. Mr. Helfrich will focus his talk on dams on the river, sediment issues, and the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TDML), the pollution diet developed by a multi-state and federal government consortium and how his organization is involved in improving the quality of the river and bay.
