New Gateway Into Havre de Grace is Proposed

Signage, landscaping, bridge painting and repaving would redesign the entrance into Havre de Grace via Route 155.

A new entryway into downtown Havre de Grace is in the works after Havre de Grace City Council supporting three economic development projects for the city.

The entryway project would redesign the area where MD Route 155 passes under the Hatem Bridge. The first two phases of the project include signage, landscaping, bridge painting and resurfacing of the roads and sidewalks.

The project was presented by Havre de Grace Manager of Economic Development Meghan Simmons, who provided a concept sketch of the area to Patch (see images).

Also included in proposed improvements is a living fence—described as an "anti-climb" fence covered in low-maintenance vines—to be installed behind the along St. John Street.

The third project introduced Monday was a tennant fit out program to be run through Havre de Grace Main Street. The project would address aging infrastructure, enabling property owners and tennants to retrofit the interiors of older commercial properties within the Main Street District.
