Pedestrian Killed on Route 40 in Aberdeen: Police

Maryland State Police say a woman was hit by two vehicles, one of which fled the scene.

A woman was killed Friday evening in Aberdeen when she was hit by two vehicles—one of which left the scene—while she was crossing US 40, according to police.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. on US 40/Pulaski Highway in the area of MD 7/Philadelphia Road, according to Maryland State Police.

Jennie Butler, of the 1100 block of South Philadelphia Boulevard in Aberdeen, was declared dead at the scene, police reported.

She had been attempting to cross US 40 from the east to the westbound side when she was hit on her left by two vehicles, according to the report.

Police said the driver of the second vehicle, a 2003 Ford Focus, remained at the scene.

Detectives are evaluating surveillance video from the area to try to identify the initial striking vehicle, authorities reported Saturday morning.

The first car was described as a passenger vehicle, according to Butler’s daughter, who had been walking with her on Route 40 at the time, police reported.

The vehicle may have windshield damage from the middle to the driver’s side, according to the report.
