Pet Died in Havre de Grace Duplex Blaze: Fire Marshal
A fire on Fountain Street claimed the life of a pet and caused thousands of dollars in damage, the fire marshal says.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The cause of the fire that broke out in a duplex on Fountain Street Thursday is under investigation, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
No people were injured in the blaze; however, a dog perished, the fire marshal reported.

At 5:57 p.m. on Thursday, Susquehanna Hose Company firefighters smelled and saw smoke coming from the residence in the 300 block of Fountain Street, according to the report. They were standing outside Susquehanna Hose Company station three, which is located across the street.
Approximately 60 firefighters—from the Susquehanna Hose Company, Level and Aberdeen—responded and brought the fire under control within 10 minutes, the fire marshal said.

The blaze started in a first-floor bedroom of the residence, the fire marshal said.
It caused $25,000 in damage, according to the fire marshal: $15,000 in structural damage and $10,000 in damage to items inside the residence.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire, but their dog who was perished, the fire marshal said.
There were no smoke detectors inside the two-story, multi-family duplex, according to the fire marshal.
