Pets Lost in Darlington Blaze, Fire Marshal Says

Authorities said nine people were displaced in Conowingo Road house fire that began in basement.

DARLINGTON, MD – Several pets perished in the three-alarm fire on US 1 in Darlington Monday afternoon, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Five adults and four children were displaced by the blaze in the 4000 block of Conowingo Road, the fire marshal reported.

The fire started in the basement, according to the report, which said the cause remained under investigation Tuesday morning.

After the owner discovered the fire at 4:07 p.m. on Monday, approximately 50 firefighters responded, bringing the blaze under control in an hour and a half, the report said.

Responding fire companies included Darlington, Whiteford, Level, Bel Air, Aberdeen, Susquehanna Hose, Water Witch and Delta-Cardiff responded, according to the fire marshal.

The fire marshal said there was $50,000 in structural damage, while $10,000 in items inside the home were also lost.
