HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Police said that one person died and three others were being treated at area hospitals after a crash in Havre de Grace Monday night. The collision involved an allegedly stolen vehicle that went across the Hatem Bridge on two flat tires after police deployed stop sticks in an attempt to slow it down following a 15-mile pursuit.
Originally, a trooper from the North East barrack had tried to conduct a traffic stop before 9 p.m. on the 2005 blue Subaru Outback, which police said was reported stolen from Baltimore City.
The vehicle was headed east on US 40 in Elkton when the officer turned on his emergency equipment to indicate a traffic stop, at which point the vehicle made a U-turn at Landing Lane and sped off on US 40 west, police said.
