The North American Right Whale is one of the world's most endangered marine mammals. The heavily-trafficked shipping lanes at the entrances to the Chesapeake have been a killing zone for these creatures, who are often killed when they collide with the ships going in and out of the Bay. Bruce Russell, chair of the advisory committee for the Nat'l Marine Fisheries Service, helped develop a plan to reduce the fatalities and therefore save this species. His lecture will include a short video and pictures (not for the faint of heart). He will delve into the economics and politics involved in getting these regulations in place, and there will be ample discussion time.
This is a free presentation to the public. We suggest a donation of $3 per person. For questions, please call us at (410) 939-4800.
