Snow, Coastal Storm Likely in HdG Thanksgiving Week: Weather Service

The National Weather Service said rain and snow may complicate holiday travel.

The National Weather Service reports that snow and a coastal storm are in the Thanksgiving week forecast for Havre de Grace.

In a hazardous weather outlook issued Monday morning, the National Weather Service said that ”accumulating snow” and a wintry mix may fall between Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

A coastal storm will hit northeastern Maryland on Wednesday, according to a hazardous weather outlook for Cecil County. The outlook stated that rain may mix with snow on Wednesday, which could complicate holiday travel. Up to 4 inches of snow could accumulate, according to the Cecil County hazardous weather forecast.

The forecast for Havre de Grace as of Monday morning showed the following chances of snow this week:

  • 40-percent chance Tuesday night
  • 90-percent chance Wednesday
  • 40-percent chance on Thanksgiving

“There is still uncertainty in the exact storm track, which will determine the rain/snow line and snow amounts,” the weather service reported.

While temperatures were in the sixties on Monday, they will drop to the fifties on Tuesday, dip below freezing Wednesday night and hit the low forties on Thanksgiving, according to the forecast, which is subject to change.

A small craft advisory was in effect on the Chesapeake Bay Monday through 1 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
