Two Dudes to Paint Port Deposit Mural

The votes are in and Two Dudes won.

Voting was to determine which image would cover the 20-by-20-foot exterior wall of the Port Deposit Post Office on South Main Street.

The Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce received a $10,500 grant from the state for the mural, according to the Cecil Whig.

Funding came from Star Spangled 200, a nonprofit that aims to educate and involve Marylanders in the state's War of 1812 bicentennial.

The chamber said its plans were to install a mural and signage with information about the First Independent Rifle Company, which defended Port Deposit from the British.

Prints of two contenders for the town's new mural were on display in the lobby of the Port Deposit post office, where citizens could vote for which painting they preferred, from Feb. 1 to Feb. 15.

The winner depicts a man from the First Independent Rifle Company defending Port Deposit from the British, according to the Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber commissioned Two Dudes Painting, a duo out of Lancaster, PA, to complete the project.

Painting is scheduled to start on April 15 and be finished by May, when the British attacked the Chesapeake region 200 years ago.
