Tydings Park Playground Gets Facelift: PHOTOS

Changes to the Havre de Grace playground are part of the Tydings Park Upgrade and Improvement Project.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — There are new toys for kids in the city of Havre de Grace. Children visiting Tydings Park have more places to play thanks to interactive equipment that was recently installed at the waterfront playground.

A Tic-Tac-Toe, rotating climber, rock-paper-scissors and modern merry-go-round are among the latest additions to the park off Commerce Street. These playground pieces were installed on Thursday, Feb. 23, as part of the city's plan to position Tydings Park as an attraction for people both inside and outside of the city. The idea was to update equipment and make it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

More equipment will be coming by early spring and existing pieces will be updated, according to a statement from the city of Havre de Grace.

"When this project is completed, we will have a safe, all-access playground for children, including those with mobility constraints," Havre de Grace Mayor Bill Martin said in the statement.

“This is just the beginning,” Martin said regarding the Tydings Park Upgrade and Improvement Project. Plans for improvement were developed by the Tydings Park Commission, which gathered public input and outlined plans for the park's future.

Last year the city added recycling containers and a Little Free Library to the park. It also expanded parking and sidewalk space on Commerce Street for increased accessibility and safety, city officials said.

The park's war memorial was recently updated and so was the entrance to the park, which city officials said will be rededicated in the spring.
