Warrior Pride Marching Band Playing in National Parade

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The Warrior Pride Marching Band is taking its show on the road — to Atlantic City, NJ.

The Havre de Grace High School marching band, which has traveled the Eastern Seaboard, will perform in the upcoming Miss America parade on the Atlantic City boardwalk.

The Warrior Pride Marching Band is going to be walking ahead of Miss Maryland in the event, known as the "Show Us Your Shoes" parade. It takes place the day before the Miss America Pageant.

The event reportedly got its name because those competing for the crown would hear cries from the crowd during the parade — "Show us your shoes!" as they went by. The people have gotten what they wanted; now the annual affair features the 52 contestants for the 2017 Miss America Pageant, each with her own shoe design that represents her state.

This year's parade will also include a tribute in honor of the 15-year anniversary of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

It is the first time the Warriors have participated in the parade, and it marks the first time Harford County has been represented there in 30 years, according to Harford County Public Schools officials.

The Show Us Your Shoes parade is slated for 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, in Atlantic City, NJ. The Miss America Pageant will be at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, broadcast on ABC.

"Havre de Grace High School’s Warrior Pride Marching Band is very excited to make its first-ever appearance in the famous Miss America 'Show Us You[r] Shoes' Parade in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Saturday, September 10 at 5:00 p.m. The band will be marching down the iconic Atlantic City Boardwalk with all the Miss America contestants. The Warrior Pride Marching Band will be right in front of Miss Maryland in the parade. The parade is televised locally in the Atlantic City and New York markets. The marching band members and director are very excited to represent Havre de Grace and Harford County in this prestigious event.
