Mat Johnson, acclaimed author of Backflash, will deliver the keynote at the 6th annual Bauder Lecture. Following his address, Johnson will be joined by Steven Leyva—poet and author of The Understudy's Handbook—for an in-depth conversation. A book signing will follow the lecture in the lobby of the Horowitz Center. Join us for either session of this free, public lecture series—offered twice for your convenience.

Join us, Saturday, September 26, 2026, for the third annual Johns Hopkins Children's Center Miracles in Motion 5K and 1-mile walk!
This event is a 5K Run or 1-mile walk, followed by a Critter Crawl Kids Dash, all to benefit the Johns Hopkins Children's Center!&nbsp; Your registration fee includes a cotton t-shirt. Same day zoo admission can be added during registration at a discounted rate of $17 ($33 value). Participants have the opportunity to fundraise for any area of the Children's Center where they feel a personal connection.
<ul><li>We offer family pricing for a group of four, which includes a discount of 10%.</li><li>If you are running the 5K or 1-mile, your child is welcome on the race course with you, but they must be registered for the Critter Crawl to participate and receive a t-shirt and participation medal.&nbsp;</li><li>Same-day registration for all events will be available.&nbsp;</li></ul>

Help animals by joining us at our much-anticipated Annual Yard Sale, with over 200 contributors, 130 eight-foot tables with stuff packed on and under, plus leaning on the walls and sitting on the floor, in 12,000 square feet of space. Household items, decor, jewelry, kitchenware, collectibles, vintage, kid’s stuff, clothing, accessories, shoes, tools, books, movies, music (thousands of CDs this year), wall art, sporting goods, toys, garden, electronics, and small furniture. Not only do we have great stuff, you can feel good about shopping because all the proceeds benefit our Adoption, Spay/Neuter and Humane Education programs.
