Blessed,Awesome, Unbelievable Elita Sohmer Clayman

People use to say “have a good day” when they said goodbye to you or after you bought something in their store. Now I have heard another good one, when I left a message on an answering machine I called for a business I was dealing with. The machine said “have an awesome day.” I really loved that one and my friend Steven Behr in his emails to me from Washington State always says “have an unbelievable day.” That is great too.

Awesome means overwhelming and astonishing. Unbelievable means extraordinary and astonishing. Both are delightful encounters, if we have them sometimes. Sometimes is nice, more often is better. An awesome day can be when everything goes well for you and yours. Unbelievable means if something so spontaneous happens and you are so delighted with it, it is awesome. My gardener use to say on his answering machine “have a blessed day.”

That was pretty nice too and it leaves you with this feeling, that it could be a blessed day, we never know when.

Dad use to say when he was asked how he was, he would say “I am fine, thank you, how are you?” Some people when you ask them how they are say “I am great.” They do not answer you with how are you? I, after a while stop asking these people how they are, because they do not pretend to ask how I am. It is only tit for tat, nothing harmful, just paying them back, that if they do not care how I am, why should I care about them. Nothing earthshaking, nothing harmful either way has occurred.

I have an ophthalmologist who says I am so sweet because I always ask how her mom is, who I have never met and how is her little boy, who I have only seen pictures of. She herself is extremely sweet in personality; she looks like she never has anything bad to say about anyone. It shows on her face, her smile, her kindness and her competency. Her  names is Lee Alison Snyder and if you have to go to a doctor, it is nice when they are that way. The whole office where she works is kind like that, Marc Honig and his associates. They are all concerned about the patient and that is overwhelming these days.Dr. Jason Palik, another doctor there is also very patient and competent. Marc, himself, is the utmost of kindness and is always there to help the patient, even if it happens on a weekend. One evening a few months ago, I had a bad eye problem and he told me to come on over. It was about 630pm and he came in for me from his home, plus for another patient. The other person happened to be a big shot in the Ravens organization and so my husband and he had a nice conversation about our beloved  Ravens. I appreciated Marc seeing me that evening. It was beyond and above anything I expected. These people are what I call real doctors, aiming to alleviate any pain, concern or problems of the patient.

Another remarkable thing is that Marc’s wife is my dermatologist. Barbara Honig and she is as dear, kind, compassionate, competent and caring as Marc. They make a fine duo, doctor team and it is my luck to know and use both of them for medical needs.

An awesome day for me now at the present time is when my aching knees are feeling better, perhaps after two physical therapy sessions with Cheryl Conrad of Spine and Sports. These two businesses do not need any publicity; they are busy, competent and caring places to visit.

So it is awesome and unbelievable to have found these fine people to take care of my husband and me in our senior years and to have them be so pleasant and willing to do so at all times. Of course, my competent,knowledgeable,physician assistant, Dennis H.Myers is at the top of my list too.  He is always there for me, either by phone, text or email or best of all in person. My orthopedic doctor said about him yesterday, “ he is the best P.A. in town.”All of you other physician assistants, I am sure your patients love you too.

If you have in your life and especially your senior, active, adult life, awesome and unbelievable medical people, you are having a blessed day. If my dad would have had, someone like these people, perhaps, he would not have passed on at age seventy-two and six days. He did not way back then in 1964 and so what happened did happen, I am sure.

Count yourself quite lucky, blessed and on the road to good health and good coverage from your own medical people, if they are like mine. To be blessed, can be in so many ways and one of them is this way.

Awesome, blessed and unbelievable is what we are. We are in good hands. Their hands and hearts will keep us ticking as the clock moves on and hopefully, we all will be here for many, more, marvelous moments.
