The Best Is Yet To Come

A story on hoping the worst is over and the best is waiting for us regardless of our age

I saw a line once in an article that used the phrase a price above rubies. You could say was that an article on jewelry purchasing or was that an article on jewelry making or perhaps how many pieces of jewelry do you own that are above ruby prices.

The way I perceived it was that there are things in life that are more than the value of a good ruby. Rubies are red stones and are quite expensive, maybe not as pricey as a diamond. I thought it meant that in our life, there are things that take precedent above wants and desires of material things.

Many seniors get bored by being home and retired at the present time. When they were working, they daydreamed about having days off and the pleasure of that happening. Now that they are 'off' all the time, they seek things to do to keep them at that busy state; they were in when they were working a job three to six days a week.

Just being able to take a day off now and then to go to doctor and dentist appointments was a nice event because they could schedule them all on one day and lose only one day at their workplace.

Now that every day is a day off, some days, they wake up and ponder what shall I do all day today? Some have hobbies, some take dance lessons, some volunteer at a specific place and others may go to senior centers where there are lots of activities to do.

A price above rubies can be applied to your own particular life as a senior, a not yet senior or even a younger person. A ruby is bright red and sparkling and very expensive. They have now what they call manmade rubies and other stones. These are imitation stones man made to look like the real thing. Now we all want the real thing but some cannot afford it. A manmade ruby or a lab created ruby as the ads say is like a man or woman made happening in our daily life.

Let me explain. All of us cannot afford to play golf, ballroom dance, go on trips for weeks or even a day trip. Some of us can afford those activities. If we cannot, then we can substitute a different activity to replace the one we really desire. In the case of ballroom dance lessons, we can take a group lesson which is usually one fourth of the private cost of a lesson.

If we cannot afford a two week vacation in Paris, then we can go on a three day trip to New York City or Philadelphia and visit museums, shop at new stores or go to a moderately priced live theater show. It can feel like we are in Paris with museums and shopping. We can always find a substitute and not call it an alternate or back-up.  Replacement for the so called real event can be just as exciting to anticipate as the actual event. I have been to Paris and to the Louvre museum and saw everything there is exciting to see in a city. However, if you cannot go there; go to a museum even in your own vicinity and see exciting objects and that can make you feel exhilarated almost as if being in Paris. You need not have the expense of airplane travel, being patted down or jet lag. There is much to see in your own area too.

I use to be able to walk a mall from front to back and from side to side. Now with aching knees, it is hard to do so and I surely miss it.  I compensate and I go to a mall and stay in one section of the place and shop at one or two stores and then go home or rest in the car and go somewhere else doing the same thing. This is suitable for me at this moment in my life and is surely better than staying at home and never going out because I cannot do what I was able to do many years or months ago,

I still accomplish something worthwhile by getting out and shopping for the length of time I am able to. This still is like being a price above rubies, the ruby being the event and the price being that I can still bring it to fruition and I can still feel that I have the ability to do things.

The ruby is a powerful red and expensive stone used in rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Once it is put in the setting whether it is manmade or truly real, the average consumer will not really know when it is on you, if it is genuine or authentic. You will know and they will speculate most likely thinking it of real value.

So we can investigate our boredom if that is happening to us.

We can value our life as a ruby. Let it be real and genuine and let us do what we can to make happen at this point in our living. If we cannot go to Paris, if we cannot have a genuine stone, if we cannot take a private dance or golf lesson, then we do the next best thing. We go out and substitute the other entity and we accomplish that. An accomplishment is just that; reality and realization now in this time of our life.

We wear a sparkling manmade ruby, we take a group dance lesson, we go on a short trip or we will sit on our tussies and be bored. There is no reason to be bored at this point in our young or senior life. There is so much out there to evaluate and to emulate and to enjoy.

Remember that our life is a true ruby and we are above it and we can still have enjoyable and rewarding times. It is (and I have made this my motto) A Price above Rubies, we are the ruby and the path we choose, now is the price we reap when we achieve and perform, no matter what it is.

Your jewelry is authentic and your life is validated and you are valuable. You do not need a jewelry appraiser person to put worth on you; you are a treasure at any age and especially this stage of your life. There is a saying that states “it takes about ten years to get use to how old you are.” Billie Burke, the female comedian of many years ago said ‘’ age, it doesn’t matter unless you are a cheese.”

We are not cheese; we are seasoned, mellow, advanced and special. We are super, satisfied, sensational, sexy, scintillating and secure.

Suzanne Somers was just on the Rosy show and she stated that at age 65 now after conquering her cancer; she said “the worst is over.” She excels in being healthy, happy and well-adjusted and feels we can all have that happen to us. The best is yet to come, if we believe it will happen
