MOMMY TIME: Fondue and Wine, Anyone?

Boordy Vineyards presents its "Fond of You…Fondue" weekends in February.

Boordy Vineyards is giving moms several sweet reasons to take a break from the kids for a few precious weekend hours in February. Why not get a group of friends together for a brief escape (or two, if you can swing it) to Boordy’s Hydes, Md., farm this month for its “Fond of You…Fondue” weekend events, featuring tasty food and samples of some award-winning wines?

Offered on Saturdays and Sundays in February from 1 to 5 p.m., “Fond of You…Fondue” sounds like it has all the makings for an ideal afternoon girlfriends’ getaway: Guests will gather around the open-flame cauldrons in Boordy’s 1830s stone wine cellar to toast marshmallows and indulge in several sweet or savory homemade fondues, including rich chocolate, five-cheese and red pepper pesto, and zesty marinara.

The fondue parties are scheduled weekends through Sunday, Feb. 27, but this weekend’s gatherings will offer a chance to pick up a tasty last-minute Valentine’s Day gift that would be perfect for a sweetheart with a sweet tooth: “The Apple Lady” from Lisa Anne’s Decadent Gifts, will be on-hand as a special guest vendor this Saturday, Feb. 12, and Sunday, Feb. 13, selling gift-worthy, gourmet creations.

All the events in the series will feature live music from bands like The Bricks (Feb. 12 and 13), the Jenny Leigh Band (Feb. 19), Virgil Cain (Feb. 20), Lovestory (Feb. 26), and the Mudbugs (Feb. 27). Informative tours of the facility will be available as well, but I hope guests will be forgiven for not tearing themselves away from the cozy fire, wine and treats.  After all, it’s not every day that a group of moms manages to make the time to hang out the way they did before the kids came into the picture.

Tickets are $15 for adults and if you must bring the offspring, tickets for teens (ages 13-20) cost $10, and tickets for children (ages 2 to 12) cost $5. Tickets are available at the gate or online until 24 hours before the event. To buy online, visit http://boordyvineyards.ticketleap.com/ .
