Honey Harvest at Oregon Ridge Oct. 5 & 6
The Oregon Ridge Honey Harvest will celebrate all
things to do with honey and bees, such as beeswax candle dipping,
honey wine (mead) making, honey harvesting and hive demonstrations, and
honey ice cream. Members
of the Central Maryland Beekeepers Association will explain the
secret lives of bees and apiaries, and will sell their honey and
other wares.
Children
will enjoy face painting, puppet shows, craftmaking corner, and the
farm animal petting zoo. They can make honey ice cream and everyone
can help to press apples for fresh juice and cider.
American
craftsmen will display their skills
at wool spinning and blacksmithing. Live traditional music
will be on stage. Civil War re-enactors will
add to the historical scene with demonstrations and exhibits of 1860s
military life. The Center's rooms of animals and plants will be on
display and the Gift Shop will be selling books and nature items. The
Peter Goff Archaeology Museum will be open for tours, illustrating
the history of this 19th
century iron ore and marble mining complex.
