SHA Showcases Plans for I-83 Bridge Replacement Project

The project is estimated to cost $5.47 million.

The State Highway Administration at Prettyboy Elementary School Wednesday evening to unveil project design displays showing the plans to replace an Interstate 83 interchange bridge at Middletown Road in Parkton.

SHA officials said the bridge is structually safe but showing signs of deterioration. They plan to replace and widen the bridge, and add a westbound lane.

Construction for the project, at I-83 exit 31, is slated to begin in the summer of 2012 and conclude in the fall of 2013. The two existing lanes of the bridge are expected to remain open during this time, however, 20 of the 60 parking spaces in the nearby Park and Ride lot will be closed.
