2nd Annual Rotary Club of College Park: Service-Above-Self Citizen of the Year

The Rotarians of College Park (RCCP) want to recognize a citizen who has demonstrated Rotary’s motto, Service-Above-Self, by volunteering their time and talents to help others. The award is competitive and is granted to only one person annually. The citizen must either work or reside in the RCCP location area (College Park, Beltsville, Adelphi, Berwyn Heights, University Park, and Hyattsville - see map attached).

Any citizen may honor exemplary candidates by nominating them to be considered for this award. You can nominate as many as three people. Submit the nomination to the Rotary Club of College Park no later than the close of business Friday, 14 April 2017 by emailing the downloadable form to the Club Secretary jlizursa@gmail.com, or mailing it to: RCCP SAS Citizen of the Year Award, P.O. Box 182, College Park MD 20740, USA. Six finalists will be notified that they are on the short list and be invited to attend the Awards Banquet. The Service-Above-Self awardee will be announced at the Rotary Club of College Park Anniversary and Awards Banquet on Saturday June 3, 2017.

SELECTION CRITERIA

To deserve consideration for the Rotary Club of College Park Service-Above-Self Citizen of the Year Award, a citizen must have performed continuing humanitarian service in any form. This award is intended to recognize those who actively help others or who have facilitated teams of people to conduct humanitarian service for College Park. Examples of humanitarian areas of service include:

Peace and conflict prevention and resolution
Environmental health, including water and sanitation
Disease prevention and treatment
Maternal and child health
Basic education and literacy
Economic and community development

This award is not intended solely in recognition of one’s performance in any professional assignment. Community service performed directly from financial contributions or otherwise financed specific projects will not be considered.

ELIGIBILITY

You may not nominate yourself for this award. You may not nominate your spouse, child, grandchild, the spouse of a child or grandchild, or a parent or grandparent. Any citizen working or living in the local area covered by the Rotary Club of College Park (see map attached) may be nominated, other than Rotarians of College Park or any other Rotary Club or Rotaract Club.
