Senegal and Beyond: Paintings by Valerie Watson

The Publick Playhouse proudly presents Senegal and Beyond: Paintings by Valerie Watson. This exhibition is open through Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Publick Playhouse, 5445 Landover Road, Cheverly, Maryland 20784, Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Painter Valerie Watson created this body of work in response to a trip she took to Senegal, Africa. She pushes the boundaries of color, space and light to create larger-than-life sized street and outdoor scenes.

Known for her large-scale watercolors, Watson has been awarded an Individual Artist grant from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Governor’s Award of Merit.  Her paintings have been featured in regional solo shows and internationally in Havana, Cuba, Asuncion, Paraguay and Rangoon, Burma, through the US State Department’s Art in Embassies Program.

Watson, now an adjunct professor of art at Prince George’s Community College, previously worked as a visual arts specialist with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and as a visual art consultant to Prince George’s County Public Schools.  She has been the artist-in-residence at the Gateway Arts Center located in Brentwood, where she still maintains a professional art studio.

The exhibit is located in the Inner Lobby Gallery at the Publick Playhouse. The Publick Playhouse is a facility of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s (M-NCPPC) Department of Parks and Recreation.
