Good Humor Driver Shot In Critical Condition: Police

An ice cream truck driver shot in the Hyattsville area Monday evening was the victim of a robbery, Prince George's County Police say.

Edmonston, MD — Authorities urged Hyattsville area residents to call police if they have any leads on the two men who reportedly shot a Good Humor ice cream truck driver in a robbery attempt.

The unidentified victim was found critically wounded by Prince George’s County Police in the 5100 block of Buchanan Street in Edmonston. The attack was reported about 6 p.m. Monday.

Two men are suspected in the armed robbery, police have not released descriptions of the assailants.

Witnesses said they heard the driver yell for help, followed by several gunshots, then he walked away from his truck and collapsed on the ground.

Authorities say the driver was shot in the parking lot of Berliner Foods, the business where many ice cream truck vendors get their supplies.

Drivers at the company told NBC Washington that they long been concerned about their safety at the parking lot, because the public knows drivers return to the location with cash. Anyone can enter the lot, drivers said, and they called the security poor.
