Keep Those Doors Locked: Thursdays Most Popular Day for Burglaries
A report by Hyattsville police shows that Thursdays have been the most popular days for residential burglaries this year.

If you live in Hyattsville you may want to be even more vigilant about keeping your doors locked on Thursdays.

According to a semi-annual report by the Hyattsville Police Department, Thursdays were the most popular days for residential burglaries from January to June 2011, bringing in about 17 crimes.
Surprisingly, weekends were not big burglary days. Fridays had 12 burglaries, Saturdays had six and Sundays a meager two residential burglaries.

Thursdays and Sundays, however, were the most popular days for vehicle thefts.
“[Crime] is a constant variable,” said HPD Spokesman Sgt. Chris Purvis, adding that the most popular days for certain crimes are always changing.
“We usually have a meeting and are like, ‘What is causing this?” Purvis said.
One guess is that crime may trend with special events at local haunts bar. But Purvis is not sure why Thursdays brought seemed to bring out the criminals this year.
The Hyattsville police have implemented a new philosophy for fighting crime. uses location data to identify areas of high incidence. The police then try their best to patrol high incidence areas more vigilantly.
“It seems to be working so far,” Purvis said.
